Directions to the Educational Flight Range (EFR)

This is the main route back to the field.  If the gate is locked at the ranch managers house, you need to use the alternate route below.

Take the Cuesta College entrance closest to Morro Bay. Turn at the signal and go about 40 feet and turn right. Do not enter the Cuesta College campus. Go about ˝ mile on old paved road. Make a left turn on dirt road at the cattle gate with a small yellow sign with black letters “EFR OPEN”. Go on the road through fence (if electric cable is up, stop, disconnect, drive through and re-connect). Drive through second cattle gate and keep to the right side of the pond. Just past the pond the road drops down and you are at the EFR flying field.

Alternate route

Use this route only if the gate at the ranch managers house is locked

Go past the main exit off  Hwy 1 if you are coming from San Luis Obispo.  Approximately 1 mile further and you will see the Rifle Range on your right.  You will turn left onto Gilardi road and then take an immediate left.  Coming from Morro Bay, watch for the Rifle range on your left and turn right onto Gilardi.

When you reach the locked iron gate turn right

A short distance down this road and you will come to a Cattle Guard.  Just past it there is a farm road to the left, take it.  If you cross the creek and reach the farm house, you have missed the turn

Just follow the road along the creek.

The road takes a dog leg to the left and then when you reach the farm buildings turn left at the road in front of them.

Just past the farm buildings, there is a lane to the right and a road going up the hill.  Either will get you to the field, but the road is better for cars and in bad weather.  When you get to the last right turn, you are back on the main route to the field.

Only use this alternate route if the gate at the ranch managers house is locked.
